What the RealPage and EliseAI Pause Means for Your Operations

If you run RealPage and have EliseAI on your 2027 roadmap, October got a lot more interesting.

On October 7, RealPage told customers it was pausing all new site activations with EliseAI, the AI platform many operators use for leasing and resident communication. Communities already running EliseAI on RealPage will stay connected for now. New properties and new EliseAI products, though, are on hold with no end date announced.

Here's what happened, what it means on the ground, and how to keep your teams moving while the tech world sorts itself out.

What Happened with RealPage and EliseAI

The short version: RealPage says EliseAI's new AI agent, Apollo, goes beyond what the two companies agreed to.

EliseAI launched Apollo on September 3 as a single AI "teammate" that can carry out tasks across its whole platform. RealPage CEO Dirk Wakeham told Multifamily Dive that EliseAI never submitted Apollo for review and that RealPage has reports of the company working around its controls. To lift the pause, he said EliseAI needs to show how the integration will be secure, governed, and monitored.

RealPage says existing data flows haven't changed and that it vets every third-party app the same way. As of the latest reporting, EliseAI had not publicly responded.

Not everyone sees it the same way. Some industry voices read the move as a platform protecting its turf as AI tools start competing with core software. Others say questions about permissions and data security are fair, but operators should have been part of the conversation sooner.

What It Means for Your Operations

We'll leave the debate around underlying motivations to the tech leaders responsible for what comes next. What we are most curious about at the moment is the immediate impact on operators.

  • Rollouts may stall mid-stream. If you were adding EliseAI property by property, some communities may be live while others are stuck. That could mean that operators are running two different workflows across one portfolio for the time being.

  • New acquisitions and lease-ups get trickier. Bringing a new property online? Plan for it to run without EliseAI on RealPage until the pause lifts.

  • Your budget assumptions may need a second look. Many teams are building 2027 plans right now. If those plans assumed AI would absorb part of the leasing or follow-up workload, that gap lands back on people.

  • Leasing teams will feel it first. Lead response, tour scheduling, follow-ups, and renewals all need a human touch when automation isn't available. Unanswered leads will not wait for a vendor dispute to end.

How to Keep Things Running Smoothly

You can't control the timeline, but you can control your operational response:

  1. Map where you stand. List which properties are live, which are waiting, and which were next in line before the pause.

  2. Talk to both vendors. Your account managers at RealPage and EliseAI are the best source for updates specific to your portfolio.

  3. Set a manual playbook for paused sites. Define lead response times, follow-up cadences, and who owns each step.

  4. Watch the workload. Track leads per leasing agent and time to first response on affected properties so burnout doesn't sneak up on you.

  5. Bring in flexible help. Temporary leasing support can cover the gap during lease-ups, budget season, or a delayed rollout without locking you into permanent headcount.

Technology Changes. Good People Stay Essential.

AI is reshaping how properties operate, and that's exciting. But this pause is a good reminder that tools come and go, contracts get renegotiated, and integrations hit bumps. Through all of it, residents still need someone to answer the phone, show the unit, and fix the dishwasher.

BG Staffing has spent nearly 40 years helping multifamily and commercial properties stay staffed through every kind of change. Whether you need leasing agents to cover a stalled rollout or on-site support for a busy year-end, we can get skilled people to your properties fast. Let's talk about coverage for your portfolio.
